Sunny Spells Scattered Showers
By Mary Kennelly, Rebecca Carroll
Sunny Spells, Scattered Showers is a unique collaborative venture between two creative artists, poet Mary Kennelly and artist Rebecca Carroll.
Mary and Rebecca both worked on the committee of the Brendan Kennelly Summer Festival in Ballylongford, County Kerry for several years, forging the solid working relationship and friendship that enabled them to embark on this journey of exploration through Rebecca's paintings and Mary's poetry.
Working closely together, inspired by shared thoughts and ideas, they have explored topics such as nature, spirituality, love, family, loss, sex, death and place. The result is a stunning visual and literary work.
Reviews
This book looks really wonderful. Texts & paintings interconnect most powerfully & cross-fertilise in ways that increase the richness from both media.
Mark Patrick Hederman, writer & critic
This stimulating volume is the rewarding outcome of the enterprise and endeavour of two ambitious, energetic and creative personalities.
It is a unique example of the symbiotic relationship possible between two imagists exploring complementary languages.
Bob Baker, Acting Head of Fine Art, Limerick College of Art & Design
This collaboration is one of the most interesting and welcome publications I have encountered and looks set to add to the artistic reputation of Kerry and to the island as a whole.
John Connelly, Novelist
That Mary should be teaming up with Rebecca to produce this beautiful and unique book of poems and paintings, each complementing the other, is something I welcome.
